Our chakras are energy centres located along the central axis of our bodies. Each is a point at which energy can be expressed in a certain set of actions, attitudes and emotions. With so much going on in our world today it is very easy for these energy centres to become blocked or unbalanced and we can start to lose touch and become disconnected with our spiritual selves.
This is part one of a seven part series to help you recognize which chakras are out of balance and to help you to re-connect and re-balance your chakras so that healing can begin.
First Chakra - Base/Root Chakra - Muladhara - Red
This chakra is located at the base of the spine and it forms our foundation.
When this chakra is too open we can become: bullying, overly materialistic, self-centered, and engage in physical foolhardiness.
When this chakra is blocked we can: become emotionally needy, suffer from low self-esteem, engage in self-destructive behaviour and feel fearful.
When this chakra is balanced we may: demonstrates self-mastery, have a high physical energy, feel grounded and feel healthy.
To help bring this chakra back into balance the following affirmations and meditation are very helpful:
1) My body is becoming more important to me. I nurture it constantly.
2) I am taking responsibility for my life. I can cope with any situation.
3) I deserve the best life has to offer. My needs are always met.
4) I am connected to Mother Earth & know the security of being grounded in reality, in the moment.
First Chakra Meditation: While focusing on your root chakra (located at the base of your spine) take a deep breath and allow yourself to breathe all the way out, releasing all the negative energy and letting it flow out through the soles of your feet. Imagine every part of yourself filled with white light; feeling strong and connected to the earth. With each breath be aware of your root chakra, visualize the deep red and feel your connection with the earth. Feel the earth holding and valuing you. Let yourself absorb the robust sustenance of the earth. Feel how you are a part of the earth itself. Commit to your survival, to meeting your needs, taking care of yourself, nurturing, nourishing and respecting yourself. Commit to living as consciously as you can and enjoying the human experience. Stay in this feeling of connectedness for a few minutes or until you feel ready to end the meditation. Namaste.
