Chakra Balancing - Base/Root Chakra (Part 1 of 7)

Posted on Thursday 9 July 2009

Our chakras are energy centres located along the central axis of our bodies. Each is a point at which energy can be expressed in a certain set of actions, attitudes and emotions. With so much going on in our world today it is very easy for these energy centres to become blocked or unbalanced and we can start to lose touch and become disconnected with our spiritual selves.

This is part one of a seven part series to help you recognize which chakras are out of balance and to help you to re-connect and re-balance your chakras so that healing can begin.

First Chakra - Base/Root Chakra - Muladhara - Red
This chakra is located at the base of the spine and it forms our foundation.

When this chakra is too open we can become: bullying, overly materialistic, self-centered, and engage in physical foolhardiness.
When this chakra is blocked we can: become emotionally needy, suffer from low self-esteem, engage in self-destructive behaviour and feel fearful.
When this chakra is balanced we may: demonstrates self-mastery, have a high physical energy, feel grounded and feel healthy.

To help bring this chakra back into balance the following affirmations and meditation are very helpful:

1) My body is becoming more important to me. I nurture it constantly.
2) I am taking responsibility for my life. I can cope with any situation.
3) I deserve the best life has to offer. My needs are always met.
4) I am connected to Mother Earth & know the security of being grounded in reality, in the moment.

First Chakra Meditation: While focusing on your root chakra (located at the base of your spine) take a deep breath and allow yourself to breathe all the way out, releasing all the negative energy and letting it flow out through the soles of your feet. Imagine every part of yourself filled with white light; feeling strong and connected to the earth. With each breath be aware of your root chakra, visualize the deep red and feel your connection with the earth. Feel the earth holding and valuing you. Let yourself absorb the robust sustenance of the earth. Feel how you are a part of the earth itself. Commit to your survival, to meeting your needs, taking care of yourself, nurturing, nourishing and respecting yourself. Commit to living as consciously as you can and enjoying the human experience. Stay in this feeling of connectedness for a few minutes or until you feel ready to end the meditation. Namaste.

Be the Vibration You Want to Feel in the World…by Colette Freeman

Posted on Friday 24 November 2006

“How do I hold a high energy level when so many people throughout my day are angry, hurt and complaining? After 5 minutes with these people I feel so frustrated and exhausted that I need a nap”. Sound familiar?

Everything and everyone has a vibration of energy. Some higher and some lower. When our vibration is higher we feel happy, energetic, inspired, enthusiastic and peaceful. When our vibration is lower we feel lethargic, doubtful, and powerless. The latter is the level of energy that can create illness in our bodies and minds. The former is the level of energy that keeps us healthy and happy. We can see by these results that holding a high vibration is preferable. So what affects this important energy, and how do we hold a high frequency throughout our day?

It always seems that the people around us are affecting us and that we are fine until we spend time with certain people or even just thinking about a certain person or situation can causes a drop in our energy. Well what if we could run into these people that bring our energy down and when we leave that person we can feel the same or better energy that when we first met them. We can! All it takes is awareness and choice.

Richard Gordon, founder of Quantum Touch, a energy healing technique, says, when your with a person who energy level is low and your energy drops to the level of theirs, its not their misery you are experiencing…it’s your own. Surprising isn’t it. So ultimately, we are each responsible for our own energy level.

Energy is always looking to resonate. Energy meets with energy and works to get to an equal level. So if we spend time with a person whose energy is low, for example, they are feeling angry, feeling helpless, or are experiencing loss, we may begin to feel our energy dropping as we spend time with them. In this case our energy is resonating to theirs. Yet on the other hand, if we are spending time with a person whose energy is high and they are happy and peaceful we will notice ourselves feeling uplifted and inspired . Ahhh, there’s the feeling we’re looking for, now how can we keep it. Well, one way would be to only associate with people whose energy vibration is high. Of course, that is easier said than done and why should it be someone else’s responsibility to keep our energy level up? The truth is …it’s not, it’s our responsibility. And if we take that responsibility into every encounter we have then because of the law of resonance we can affect the energy around us continuously and thus can experience much more energy and joy throughout our day.

Here are some tips that can help us be responsible for our own energy:

Notice Ourselves. The next time you are talking to someone who is complaining, criticizing or venting notice what you are doing. Notice your thoughts. Usually we get so into their story that we leave ourselves and move into their lives, imaging what we would do or say or feel in that situation. We move into living their lives in our mind and that can be exhausting. Byron Katie asks, “Whose business are you in?….While you’re mentally in their business running their life, who’s living yours?” As soon as you ask that question it can bring you back to yourself and being responsible for you. It is from this place that we can truly affect the energy of our experience, make clear decisions and be the inspiration that our friend needs.
Breathe. Bringing oxygen into our bodies has the ability to raise our energy. Oxygen is Life Force Energy. Notice how when we are stressed we unconsciously breathe shallow or just stop breathing for moments at a time. A deep breath always has a way of refreshing our cells, clearing our minds and relieving stress, thereby instantly raising our energy.
Trust. Reminding ourselves that it is not our job to ‘fix’ anyone can relieve the pressure we may be feeling. Remember that every person we encounter has been supplied with all that they need to live their life and we can’t know what will be for their highest good. Self realization is always the most powerful. They can solve their own problems just as we can solve ours, sometimes a bit more time is needed for all the information to come their way. Trusting allows us to stay in the present moment where inspired thoughts come to us, and sharing an inspired thought always raises energy.
Choose. We can ask ourselves “Who do I want to be in the face of this?” Our intention to feel good and shine light is an inspiration to others and is contagious. When our thoughts do drift to lower energy thinking (thoughts that are not supportive of ourselves or others), we can say to ourselves “Cancel That Thought” to let the Universe know that we are choosing again and to remind ourselves that we can choose to think and share thoughts that support and encourage others and ourselves.

So notice, breathe, trust and choose your way to resonating at a high energy level and soon you will see that there is less complaining, suffering, and criticizing in your world, and that more and more people around you are resonating at high energy levels. And you truly are being the vibration you want to feel in the world. You’ll see.
